Perspective

Today, President Trump tweeted out an image of a map with county shapes that looked Republican red.

I was curious where this map originated from. There was an article back in 2016 by the Washington Post that provided some perspective. This was by county, the 2016 election results. However, the FLAT red county level map doesn’t show the population density. Now look at this version with population factored in:

There has been a shift to move away from 3D visualizations. Lots of best practice advice says that it can skew the results, providing an incorrect perspective. While for the most part I agree with that, there are some situations where 2D results can be misleading.

Sometimes it’s good to look at things from a different perspective.
